NOTICE APRIL 03, 2025: The Village of Godfrey is pleased to inform everyone that we have a new online program, CloudPermit (Click Here) for our permit process! Applicants will be able to submit the application, upload documents, pay and request an inspection, and download/print the final certificate. There will also be a place for you to view any discrepancies with pictures for follow up with the inspector.

Welcome to the Village of Godfrey Building and Zoning Department
The Village Building and Zoning Department is responsible for:
- Issuing permits for new construction commercial and residential, additions, alterations, plumbing, roofing, pools, decks, fences, electrical, and signs. This also includes reviewing all plans related to permitting.
- Processing applications for rezoning and variance hearings.
- Issuing ordinance violations for weeds, junk, trash, derelict vehicles, and property maintenance.
- Verifying zoning classifications.

The Village of Godfrey has Adopted the following:
- Building Code used by the Village of Godfrey: 2018 International Building Code
- Electric Code used by the Village of Godfrey: 2017 NEC
Inspections
We require a 24 hour notice for any inspections. If you know when you need your inspection please call and schedule. We do not do inspections same day.
Electrical Contractors
The Village of Godfrey requires that any person is to engage in the business of electrical contractor, they shall be registered as an electrical contractor in the Village of Godfrey. However, that if such person is currently registered or licensed in any other municipality in Illinois and based upon the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) currently adopted by the Village of Godfrey, then such person shall not be required to take and pass the examination. Occupancy Permit
Occupancy permit applications are available online. We do not accept payment over the phone or online.
It is best to have your real estate agent fill out the application. We need buyer and seller’s information complete on form or it will not be accepted.
Anytime a property changes owner an Occupancy permit is required.
